Bolujoko Olufunke Boluwatife is a 300 level student of Federal University of Technology, Akure in Ondo state, studying Agricultural extension and communication technology. She sells data bundles. In this interview, she talks about who inspired her, when she started, how she joggles her business and academics, and what she would like to become in life. Excerpts:
Who inspired you to sell data bundles?
No one. I just love being independent. I just didn’t like waiting for them to send me money from home. So when a friend introduced me to selling data, I didn’t hesitate despite the fact that majority of data sellers are the opposite sex (males).
If you have another business option, will you choose it?
We would like to have an insight to the business you do and services you provide. When did you start your data bundle business, and what does it entails?
I started out in August 2015. I sell data bundles of Glo, Airtel, Mtn and Etisalat networks. Everyone wants to be online so it’s something needed by a vast number of people.
Has this business in any way affected your academic performance and activities?
No. I’m on a strong 2-1. I know how to manage my time.
Speaking about your type of business, what are the challenges involved?
The fact that some people think it is a scam.
How have you been able to build trust in your customers?
I try to convince them. In some cases, I send data first and when they see its legit, they’ll come back and even refer me.
It’s quite impressive to see a young lady do such business. However, has your gender been a barrier?
No. It has helped me instead. People marvel when they know I’m a female data seller.
If there’s anything you can do in the blink of an eye, what could that be?
To be a renowned business woman.
Do you mean that you can be a renowned business woman just in the blink of an eye?
That’s the only thing I wish for myself.
Alright then. Suppose you log in to your Facebook account and want to update your status – What’s on your mind?
I hardly do that. I can’t remember when last I did that.
